Paul D'Alessandro was born in Pawtucket, RI. He grew up in East Providence, RI, where he was an altar boy at Sacred Heart and Saint Martha's Catholic Churches, and a life guard at the local boy's club. He attended Providence College where he majored in Liberal Arts. While at Providence College he studied Italian, and spent his junior year as an exchange student in Italy.
After graduating, Paul enlisted in the Air Force, and he was sent to Linguistics School to learn Chinese. He was stationed in Thailand during the Viet Nam war where he spent many hours listening to and recording Chinese pilot radio transmissions.
After the war Paul retrained in computer science, then after leaving the Air Force, he worked in IT for many years. He retired in 2020, just in time for the Covid-19 pandemic.
In his younger days Paul enjoyed sailing and sail boarding. He also enjoyed snow skiing, rollerblading and power walking. He was a member of the Calico Cloggers, and Two Hearts Round Dancing club, and served on the board for the Washington Area Square Dancers Cooperative Association.
Paul is survived by his daughter, Gianna D'Alessandro (John) Haney, son, Brian D'Alessandro, significant other, Kathy Moore, sister Ginny (Michael) Smolenski, and brothers Richard and John (Jennifer) D'Alessandro. He was predeceased by his parents, Francis Paul D'Alessandro (Frank) and Lovie Arnold D'Alessandro.
